Buddies

Our friends the Reedys have a daughter named Ellen. She's pretty much the cutest girl ever. Alex adores her and cries "Ennen! Ennen!" whenever they get together. Despite a two-year age difference, Ellen graciously lets Alex follow her around and copy her every move. Sometimes she even lets him play with her My Little Ponies and wear her pink shoes. So generous. :)

Thanks for letting Ellen hang out with us, Ang, and for letting Alex hang out with you guys so much. We really do love it!

If you all really loved me ...

... this would have been my birthday cake. ;) (Image courtesy of cakewrecks.blogspot.com.)

But it was a good birthday even without supercool Stargate cakes. I'm a year older, I got some awesome swag (Yes, I said "swag."), and my wife took me out to dinner at Red Robin.

So, thanks to the Reedys for my Final Fantasy game -- haven't gotten into it much, but it looks like it should be pretty fun.

... thanks to my parents for hanging out with us and giving me a cake (and a check), even though we were too sickly to be much fun.

... thanks to my other parents for forgetting my birthday entirely until the Monday after. ;) Just teasing. I know you were thinking we'd be passing by that weekend.

... and thanks to everyone else who wished me a happy birthday, thought about me at all that day, or ordered this snow for today. (Okay, I lied. The person who requested snow today should be slow-roasted over barely sizzling coals. Yeah, I'm cruel.)

Back in Business

Hey look, I'm blogging! And it's all thanks to this:
And now, on to the tour of our new apartment (finally)!

Here's one view of the front room. For the record, I really hate those pillows. But when they come free with your $40 craigslist couches, you probably shouldn't complain. :) Anyway, I will be sewing new ones someday so that this room doesn't seem quite so dark!

The other side of the room. Along with my new camera, Josh got a new TV. Thank you, tax return!

Looking into the hall and the kitchen from the front room. Speaking of the kitchen, let's go there now!

Hello, kitchen!

This is Alex's little nook. He likes to eat snacks here.

Hey, there's counter space! Oh me! And cupboard space! Oh my! And a dishwasher!!! (Launi faints).

Whew, sorry about that. I'm back. Look, my very own washer and dryer! (Faints again).

I get excited easily, in case you couldn't tell. :) When you walk into the hallway, the vanity area is the first thing that you will see.

Here's our closet, I mean bathroom.

"Turn around, bright eyes!" and this is what you will see. The hall. The two doors on the left are the utility closet and a linen closet. And the door at the very end...

...is this! A great little closet/pantry. Alex doesn't have to share his room with our holiday decorations and food storage anymore!

To the right of that closet is Alex's bedroom. We recently moved him to a big boy bed (or, his crib with the front rail taken off and a guard rail added). He's been sleeping in it wonderfully. The whole transition went a lot more smoothly than we thought it would. Hooray!

Here's the middle bedroom. Alex hardly ever gets in there, so the second I opened the door to take a picture, he ran in there to play with whatever he could! It's really nice to have a third bedroom. It's storage for now, and hopefully a nursery someday soon. No, that's not an announcement. :)

And this is our bedroom. I made the bed! This probably only happens about twice a year, so consider yourself privileged to see it. I have failed my mother and all of her teachings about hospital-tight sheets.

And that's the apartment. If you're ever in the area, we'd love to have visitors! Josh might even let you watch a movie on his new pride and joy. :)

Bucket-kicking

Yes, I realize it has been over a month and a half since we moved, and over a month since I posted anything. I am hanging my head in shame if it makes you feel any better. And you know those pictures of our new apartment that I keep promising to post? Well, there is a good reason they are not here. And that reason is...our camera kicked the bucket.

Also, today our TV kicked the bucket.

And our car will soon kick the bucket as well.

That poor bucket is suffering a lot of abuse these days.

So, my dear friends and family, I am doing what any mature, sensible, intelligent adult would do: I'm going to go hide in my closet until these problems resolve themselves. Thank you and goodbye. :)

We are Still Alive!

Yes, we made it to our new apartment without any trouble and are now getting settled in. But there's no way I'm posting pictures until it is at least somewhat organized and decorated, and there are not just piles of junk everywhere. Patience is a virtue. :)

I did, however, want to wish a Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! We celebrated early because we might be out of town with family tomorrow (I say might because we've spent most of the day lying around feeling sick, and we don't want to go see the fam just to give them whatever we have). But despite the sickness, I still dragged myself into the kitchen to make the dessert I've been planning for us.

Say hello to Lite Raspberry Mousse. (Though I'm not sure what's supposed to be "lite" about them. They're loaded with sugar and other good stuff. Maybe if I'd used the lite Cool Whip called for in the recipe. But I am all about real whipped cream, baby!)

These little beauties taste as good as they look! Josh is a raspberry fanatic, so of course he loved them. And I didn't think they were half bad either, but mostly I had fun putting them together. :) Please notice the decorative hearts I attempted to draw on the glasses with chocolate. I'm just tryin' to be festive here, folks!

We hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
